I could only imagine what was going on in Yudetamago's heads when they wrote the last arc of Kinnikuman up to this point... Was it to reset the status quo? was it an experiment? Frak if I know, but this arc will be a revisit to the Wrestling Tournament that started it all, only with subtle hints at what the future might hold. SPOILER: THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ANIME/MANGA SERIES OF ALL TIME!!!!
Out of all the manly/macho series out there, including Fist of the North Star, Sakigake!! Otokojuku, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Riki-Oh, Kinnikuman, Toriko, Kongou Bancho, and God Sider (which Hokuto no Gun Needs to translate), one series always doesn't come to mind, that is...
SILVER FANG: SHOOTING STAR GIN!
This is a truly underrated Shonen Jump series, that debuted in 1983, and went on until 1987. It's realy popular in Nordic countries, and even has a few sequels, but the sequels don't matter today. It's a very violent anime and has a feel similar to JoJo Part 3, or even Fist of the North Star. Lets take a look at the Dog vs EVIL MACHO BEAR ACTION!!!!!

As 1980 was coming to an end, Kinnikuman was gaining some serious ground, Even going to be in the top 3 along with Shonen Jump's New Golden Boy Dr. Slump and other Shonen Jump titles several times throughout the 1980s, but a new year brought new big plans for Kinnikuman, Like reverting back to it's Ultraman roots. It went as well as you'd expect, did anyone in 1980 go "This story's good, but you know what'd be AWESOME? If it reverted back to it's goofy episodic nature..." Kinnikuman Retrospective: American Tour Arc: Part 1

56k Beware and Spoilers AheadSo Kinnikuman Completed a year of serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump, It had a tournament, a goofy beginning arc, and sense of adventure in areas, I bet Yudetamago was asking themselves a simple question...
Now What?
I feel like that Kinnikuman wasn't supposed to go on past the Kaiju arc, then the chojin olympics, but it became a sensation all over japan, inspiring Akira Toriyama to put aspects of it in series like Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball. Kinnikuman could've gone just about anywhere under the weight of it's own wrestling nature, for that it went to the then rising in popularity american wrestling scene. It won't be as unique as the zany characters of the Chojin Olympics, but it gives it a sense of realism that we won't see in future arcs. This is the Kinnikuman American Tour Arc...

Kinnikuman Retrospective: 20th Chojin Olympics Arc: Part 1

I think it was safe to say before (and for a lot of) 70s, The tournament arc in shonen fight manga was relatively non existent, but it was extremely prevalent in Sports manga like Hoshi no Kyojin. Sure there was fighting in manga like Ashita no Joe and Tiger Mask, but those were more sports than fighting. You could say the same for Kinnikuman, but as the series goes on, it gets more and more surreal. It becomes less and less about normal Pro Wrestling. But where did the Wrestling angle come from? Short answer the Author's (Yudetamago) passion for Wrestling. Long answer, no one, at least outside of japan, knows for sure... If anyone has any translations of the author's interview pages (you know the ones that come with every manga or even american comic book ever made), please tell me so I can confirm any info. Back to the trournament arc, Shonen fight anime like the obsure but influencial Otoko Ippiki Gaki Daisho were largely episodic, heck Tiger Mask, despite being about an overarching tournament, was largely a fight of the week series. But things would later change when japan and many other western nations decided to boycott the Moscow Olympics...

There isn't that much info on how Kinnikumnan came to be, but I think one day at a Japanese school, school, Yoshinori Nakai showed his best friend a sketch of a goofy looking Ultraseven and Takashi Shiamda was impressed, They were interested in becoming a mangaka duo, they were looking for a name and noticed one of their farts at a picnic smelled like a boiled egg. They decided to call themselves Yudetamago, after the Japanese word for said food. They submitted manga like Gong no Desu, a wrestling manga which would later for shadow what the series would become, and Mammoth to their favorite Magazine, Weekly Shonen Jump. While never being picked up for full series, Kinnikuman was picked up for 2 one shots, and later a full manga. This would later become a goofy Ultraman parody called Kinnikuman.
