What exactly went wrong with Power Rangers Super Megaforce...

OK, another piece on Super Megaforce, Don't worry, I promise not to dwell on it forever, but let's get real here... This is the 3rd piece I did on the Super Megaforce finale (though this is more of a "My thoughts on the series as a whole" thing) and it probably won't be the last. Power Rangers Fans, Sentai Fans, and Toku Fans alike are going to be doing a postmortem on this series and it's finale for a long time, for the hack job it did to the Power Rangers Legacy, and the greatness that is Gokaiger (and coming from me, someone who's generally not a Sentai purist, That's saying something)... I came up with a list things that went wrong with the series, and it's prequel series, Original MegaForce (though calling it that is a stretch, more on that later)...

#1: RELYING TOO MUCH ON NOSTALGIA:

This is an unavoidable hazard for any nostalgia property, but those same properties have churned out some decent reimaginings, See Beast Wars, Ultimate Muscle (which was based off of Kinnikuman/M.U.S.C.L.E. from the 80s), Thundercats 2011, and others. Power Rangers has been running continuously for over 20 years and went through original ideas for most of that time, sure we had things like Forever Red, but that was mostly an after thought. It's been plaguing the franchise ever since just before Saban bought the property from Disney, but it's much more obvious here... making references to past series with new ideas may have been cute in Gokaiger, but It just doesn't work for a 20 episode season, and classically goofy stories doesn't work with today's audience who are too young to understand or long time fans who've grown way up... Sometimes the G1 MMPR fan's have got to let go of their nostalgia...

#2: LACK OF ORIGINAL IDEAS:

I already discussed this in the last number kind of, but I'll just say this, What made the best of the best of the best of Power Ranger so good was that it was completely new and original (sentai footage notwithstanding). See In Space, Lost Galaxy, Time Force, RPM, Heck even Classic MMPR goes in those guidelines... That's all I've got that I haven't already said before...

#3: LACK OF A RELIABLE ATTENTION SPAN:

I'm well aware that this isn't just exclusive to this season but let's face it, at first they promoted both seasons like crazy, then they rarely promote it, then they promote it's return, then they go back to not promoting it, and at the last second, they promote the season finale. It's not just a problem with the marketing, different parts of the production staff wanted different things, but they combined it all without realizing what they've created...

#4: NO EXPLAINATIONS FOR DAMN NEAR ANYTHING:

Who are these Supersonic Blitz Lightning Prism Rangers? Why is one of these legendary new powers referred to by one name once, then another name another time? Why did the legendary rangers come to the rescue, and where did they go at the end? What does any of this mean? NEVER EXPLAINED!!!!

#5: THE LEGENDARY RANGERS (SANS TOMMY (WHO GOT PRETTY MUCH ALL HIS SCENES SHOWN PUBLICLY MONTHS BEFORE THE WORLD PREMIRE)) ARE PRETTY MUCH WASTED:

They put so much build up to the return of Tommy that some of the classic rangers only get one or two lines, one only gets one line in the extended cut only, and the others don't speak at all. Hell, I said it once, and I'll say it again, Go watch the promo material featuring Tommy and see all his scenes, it'll save you the sanity...

#6 and #7: OVERHYPING A RUSHED PRODUCT (IN THE LEGEND WAR) AND RUSHING THE PRODUCT IN GENERAL:

They promised something big with the legend war, Heck I heard various rumors that it'd be a TV Movie (NO THAT COMBINATION OF 2 EPISODES WITH 15 MINUTES OF NEW FOOTAGE DOESN'T COUNT), and rumors that classic monsters would be returning, as well as rumors that Toei filmed a new legend war war for America, and All I can say is wow... I can't recall the last time a big TV Production looked or played out so Cold, Lifeless, and Cheap... especially with that Bootleg Titanium Ranger and the Sloppy Editing...

#8: THE LACK OF RESPECT FOR GOKAIGER:

It seems like they only Grabbed Gokaiger for the anniversary value, and not also because of the pirate theme (which is only in Super Megaforce for show)... Why are the new ranger modes based off of pirates? If you back to #3, and guessed the answer... NEVER EXPLAINED!!!!

#9: IT'S COMPLETELY FULL OF CRAP AD CAMPAIGN:

The series promised something bigger than this, promised something legendary, and it failed to deliver in both aspects and many more...

I'm done, If you disagree with me, do so, just watch the series and watch it with bigger eyes rather than like a fanboy...
