OK, This is going to be my final thoughts on Gaim and first thoughts on Drive... Both Kamen Rider Series... Gaim was an interesting series. It started out not terribly great, to being above OK, to a good series to a dark twisted series that has to be seen to be believed. It is the darkest of the neo heisei era, and the darkest tokusatsu that's aimed at kids that does it's job... Unlike certain other Toku that doesn't know what it wants to be,,, *Go-Busters* But let's talk about the bigger picture...
Gaim starts out as the poorman's Ryuki, but if you look deep inside the series for a larger viewing. It perhaps get's better. It's the shortest of the Neo Hesesi Rider series. By one episode. If you look at how dumb and convoluted the series is, Then you won't enjoy it properly. The story is that a biunch of armored riders battle each other, then a corporation known as Yggdrasil wants more power and sends in their own riders. Then the overlord inves take over the city and its products and services and form an alliance with Yggdrasil to defeat the armored riders. The armored riders battle for the forbidden fruit,, and that's all I'm telling you. It involves biblical references, alien takeovers, and you have to watch the series to understand. Like Wizard, People seem a bit split on it, but while not the best series, you have to watch it just to judge for your self. I like it because it grows from childhood to adulthood, and the monster designs are McFarlane worthy... I wish there was a whole toyline based on Kamen Rider monsters...
Overall pretty good series, but too dense for first time viewers...
Now onto drive... the series is still kind of young, but It feels like a downgrade from Gaim... It doesn't have a (while still good) as iPod worthy song... but the theme has a lot of adrenaline... and is still kind of catchy. I do like Drive's Car, and The monster designs are pretty good, the Tire Koukan gimmick seems goofy... and I just don't like the Cars theme as much as say flash drives, or coins, or rings... but it is better than fruit based locks... The thing is that the tire placement on drive feels offputing. The Kamen Riders look great otherwise. I can't wait for Mach to make his debut.
Overall, not as impressive as Gaim, but the show is still young.
