Wreck-It Ralph review

If you told someone 20, 10, or even 5 years ago that there was going to be an official crossover with 8 and 16 bit era game characters from games like Q-Bert, Mario, Sonic, Frogger, Pac-Man, and even Street Fighter II, They probably would have looked at you like "What the HELL are you talking about?" Yep, this movie is gonna wreck it. Is the movie Wreck-It Ralph the movie Generation NES Die-Hards have been waiting 30 years to see?

STORY:

So the story begins with our Kind of sort of anti hero of the story Wreck-It Ralph stuck in a game named Fix-It Felix Jr. for 30 years being the bad guy. When the arcade closes, every character of every game in the  arcade meets at Game Central Station to to what ever the hell they want. Ralph goes to a weekly support group and confesses he doesn't want to be the bad guy anymore in which the rest of the group reacts in shock. He goes back to his game where the rest of the characters are having a 30th anniversary party for their game. Ralph now wants a medal like his rival Felix, so He goes in the Gears of War-esque rail shooter Hero's Duty and get's a medal. But he releases a bug in the process. He goes into the Mario Kart-esque Racer Sugar Rush and meets Venellope, a glitch character. OK, I'm not going to spoil the rest of the movie for you just because it's a more recent movie, so let's just explain every thing else without giving too much away. Ralph and Venellope team up to Save their game and show they can be just as good as the other characters, Felix teams up with Tamora from Hero's Duty, and that's all I'm telling you.

This movie has bits of nostalgia most 20 or 30 somethings will enjoy, but it doesn't feel up to the same level as the Toy Story movies did. Let me put it this way, Toy Story 1 and 2 came out when most of it's audience was young, and as much as I could complain about Toy Story coming out OVER A DECADE AFTER TOY STORY 2, The incoming nostalgia trip for most was what fueled it. If Wreck-It Ralph came out in the mid to late 90's and had a couple sequels in the time between then and now, I would enjoy it more, but still this was still a cute movie.

CHARACTERS:

Wreck-It Ralph is the Anti-Hero, Wanting to be a Hero but still kind of a villain on the inside. He's reference to Donkey Kong, Huge, Destroying buildings, knocked off the building at the end of the game. Fix-It Felix Jr. is a tribute to Mario/Jumpman, Climbing Buildings, short, Avoiding Obstacles, He even looks like Mario. He has a rivalry/friendship with Ralph. He wants to do everything he can to be a hero for his people. Venellope von Schweetz is the one Who wants to be some thing more but she's too glitchy. She's Ralph's friend throughout the movie. They have a lot in common, they both want to be something more than what they are, They're rejected by their own game, etc. Tamora Jean Calhoun is The female Badass. She teams up with Felix and do awesome things. I'm not going to spoil who the villain is because he comes in pretty damn close to the end.

I like these characters, the're like characters in video games in various genres. Those who are retro gamers will understand.

PRESENTATION:

The animation resembles if a retro game was in CGI, very simple and cutesy. My only problem with the presentation is that there's TOO MUCH DOD DERNED PRODUCT PLACEMENT!!! Serious take a shot every time you see a blatant product placement or reference to a product that's not a video game. But the   presentation is simple and it works. Just watch the movie to find out.

OVERALL:

It's one of the best movies of the year, let alone one of the best animated movies of the year. While not close to good as Toy Story, it's still pretty damned good. I give this three and a half Fix-It Felix Jr. Machines out of four.

SYSTEM CRASH!!!!!

INSERTING SYSTEM DISK....

REBOOTING....

This just in!!! Disney bought LucasFilm, and is going to make three more star wars films. I've got a bad feeling about this because they're making more full length Toy Story movies, ruining Wizard of Oz, ruined Power Rangers, and destroyed their own reputation. Expect a blog about this after my 50th blog. Yep, we're   doomed.

Next time my 50th blog. Until then me and the Yoshiette are going to be partying in some undisclosed location in North Korea. See you then.
