RUN THE HELL AWAY!!!!!

WHAT WOULD THE JETMEN DO?

LOCK, LOAD, AND BEAT THE EVER-LOVING CRAP OUT OF THAT BASTARD!!!!!

Ignoring that bit, Let me provide you with a verdict right now. Spoiler free short review commencing in 3, 2, 1, go:

Jetman is a great series that should be watched by any fan of toku, Power Rangers, or Super Sentai. It has a great story, great characters, and great villains. With very little flaws, this is sentai perfection.

Before I get to the review that's big, and may contain spoilers, I have a couple of disclaimers:

1. THIS REVIEW WILL HAVE SPOILERS!!!!

2. THIS IS A REVIEW AND NOT MEANT TO BE TAKEN PERSONALLY, AND THIS IS BY NO MEANS OFFICIAL!!!!!

3. SINCE THIS (LIKE MOST TOKU) WAS NOT RELEASED IN THE U S OF A, WHICH MEANS IT HAS TO BE FANSUBBED. I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LEGAL TROUBLE YOU MIGHT FACE FROM TOEI,   OR ANY OTHER COMPANY INVOLVED. SO I WON'T PROVIDE ANY LINKS!!!!

WA WA OH WA WA.

OK, onto the review.

STORY:

The story begins in 1991, Where 2 life long friends are in an army known as Sky Force, one becomes a Jetman and the base is infiltrated and the other gets sent to outer space to parts unknown. An alien organization known as Vyram finds 4 random people and Ryu and the commander finds all four of them and they become WINGED SQUADRON JETMAN!!!! They fight the continually increasing forces of Vyram. Very early in the series Ryu finds out that one of Vyram's commanders, Maria, is actually his sidekick Rie. I suppose there's a love triangle between Ryu, Gai, and Kaori, but I'll get to that when we cover the characters. They have five machines that turn into one big jet known as the Icarus Haken, or it can form the giant robot known as the Jet Icarus. They later get 2 more robots known as Jet Garuda (Which can combine with the Jet Icarus to form the Great Icarus), and Tetraboy (Which turns into a cannon known as the Tetra Buster), as far as Vyram they have Dimensional Beasts (which are based on real life objects), and later in the series they get Bio Dimensional Beasts (which are based more on Animals).

OK here's we get into spoilers so highlight only if you've seen the series or if you don't care about spoilers:

Towards the end of the series, Radiguet KILLS the adult form of one of the villains of the series. He imlants a parasite into Maria and makes her turn into a FULL ON MONSTER, Ryu later destroyed the parasite but Rie is already dead so it's a bittersweet victory. Ryu and Gai fight Radiguet and Grey respectively, Gai Destroys Grey but Radiguet turns into a DAikaiju Known as Raguem, and just mutilates  The Mecha But Jet Icarus destroys Raghuem with It's Birdonic Saber. and the Jetmen look upon the Mecha's rumble. 3 years later Ryu Get's Married to Kaori, Gai dies. and the story ends wit a clipshow.

The story's got a little something for every one, and is better than most of the stuff out there.

CHARACTERS:

Ryu, Red Hawk, is the bold headed leader. Haunted by the death of Rie, but he get's over it once the seies cocludes. Gai, Black Condor, is the team Badass. he starts out as kind of an arrogant snob, but he becomes  good friends with Ryu. Ako, Blue Swallow, is the youngest out of the team. She starts out as a greedy snob and tomboyish, but she gets every thing she wants at the ending. Raita, Yellow Owl, is the Big and smart guy. He starts out a little childish, but matures as the series goes on. Kaori, White Swan, is the pretty girl. I'm sorry, I just don't see her development throughout the series. Aya is the team mother. Radiguet is the "leader" of Vyram, who later becomes the actual leader of Vyram. Maria is the female of Vyram, she has an excellent story and history with Ryu, for those who watch the series know what I mean. Grey is my favorite, Because he's so mature, cold blooded, and just so evil. Tran starts of as sort of a weird villain but turns into on older version of himself, and turns into a full on leader. The characters except for the two female rangers are all really well written and really add to the Jetman experience.

PRESENTATION:

The presentation may not not look like anything today, but it's so fake it actually looks better than most of the stuff you see today. If you like the style seen in MMPR S1/ZyuRanger, you'll like the style seen here. The mature tone helps the sentai become better than most of the stuff of today. Aside from the White and Blue ranger episodes, The episodes are more well written than the average Power Ranger episode.

OVERALL:

This is a great toku that should be watched by everyone, even if you haven't watched toku, this is a great place to start.

I give this Four Great Icarus' out of four.

Next time, the To Boldly Flee Review (Hopefully), See you then.
