Lessons (I Hope) Saban has Learned from Power Rangers: Super Megaforce...

Well, It's been a year, lets talk Super Megaforce again...




OK why am I beating this dead horse once more? For one Linkara's going to make this topical one last time in less than a month with his History of Power Rangers on this and it's prequel series MegaSTUPIDForce (which you may or may not see a response when it comes out (no I don't have plans to see the AT4W Movie for reasons that you should've knew long ago, so don't ask)), and the other big reason is I wanted to put this series to bed enough so we can enjoy Dino Charge for the better job it does at being a throwback to Classic MMPR than Megaforce was (more on that later)...



Why did Megaforce suck? Short version, it was a rushed, cynical cash grab that leeched off of people's nostalgia for any interpretation of Power Rangers. It was being built up through the pre-monolithic social media since 2012 (at least, maybe 2011). Long version, I discussed this A YEAR AGO, Catch up if you need too... Now's the time learn what Saban did right with Dino Charge that they didn't do right with MegaCRAPPYForce...



#1: If you want to attract people with nostalgia, don't be so blatant about it:

This isn't the biggest problem since there's exceptions to this (see Forever Red), but you don't need to put so much effort into marketing and making nostalgic things. but at the same time, there's no sense to making as little effort it becomes blatant. Super Megaforce had both of these at the same and it's amazing how much it fails because of that. Nostalgia should never be the biggest thing you liked about a new video game, movie, TV show, etc. there's story, characters, gameplay (for games), it should always be a side thing.



#2: FOR ZORDON'S SAKE, DON'T RUSH YOUR PRODUCT:

I discussed this last time, but it's a massive problem that Saban caused with this failure of a series. They have no explanations for the Sentai suits, the legend was ripped off of Gokaiger, and Tommy was only in like 4 scenes that were leaked to hype this stupid mass market crap, the extended finale was just  2 episodes with 15 minutes of extra footage. That's just scraping the surface, I'd be here all day explaining how this was rushed.



#3: Deliver the hype or don't feature any hype AT ALL:

Yeah, Tommy was the least of the woes for this. The rangers couldn't bother to show up for more than 30 seconds, Gokaiger actually had the rangers help in fights, but not here. Remember when there was rumors of a Dino Charge/MMPR Crossover? Saban denied it, but either they learned their lesson not to hype rushed products, or it's going to see more info on it later (let's see how they handle the yellow ranger if they do release it)...



#4: Know the Sentai:

Dino Charge is more serious than Kyoryuger, but it feels like a Y7 Rated deconstruction of Kyoryger... either make some commentary on Gokaiger, explain the Pirate theme & new powers, and/or more the Sentai and make Goseiger the anniversary season for Power Rangers. Gokaiger needed to be a 40 episode Power Rangers Season to work, yet they said, "Ehhhh, it'll be OK with just 20"...


Lastly #5: TELL ORIGINAL STORIES:

Don't rely on that episode where a pig monster ate all the food in the world, or when the rangers were baked into a giant pizza, or even solely the Sentai stories for ideas. You've told serious stories, Funny stories, and all types of original stories in the past, Show that magic now, and the future. You don't need the Saban/Disney/Toei of the past, present or future to enable you for good stories, Just saying...



Will I put the final nail on the coffin of this Sh*ttastic series if/when I respond to the HOPR of this series this Christmas? Only time will tell.
