This is the time where I should be reviewing GARO: The One Who Shines in the Darkness, But I'm still stuck at the end of Makai Senki as far as GARO Chronology. But I needed an anime to watch and this one looked particularly good. What did I think of it? Find out today...
It's an interesting specimen, as in the tense that it's not your usual GARO series. It's really slow paced, which usually isn't a good thing for relatively short series like this. It doesn't really get interesting until the last third or quarter of the series, don't get me wrong it's not a bad series throughout, but it's largely convoluted, and doesn't know what plot to take on. it can be an episodic show at one point, and have plots revolving around the many different characters at others (this screwing around with the series just doesn't work for a relatively short series likes this). The concept is essentially Medieval Guyver, but the story involves the corrupt servant of King Valiante suggesting to hunt down witches and in the process killing several Makai Knights and Alchemists. Leon, This series' GARO has to fight through monsters to defeat Mendoza's ambitions, it doesn't start really developing until 2/3 into the series. Leon's joined by fellow Makai Knights ZORO/German Luis (AKA his father), and GAIA/Alfonzo San Valiante (AKA his cousin and the King's son) and Makai Priestess Emma. Talking about the interesting parts of the story would spoil it, but I really want you to watch the series for yourself. The best part of the series is the presentation, it doesn't look as cool or as fluid as the live action series, and it's very much a case of style over story, but they spent a lot of time on the CG and fights. The final fight is proof of that, it's big, epic, loud, and has a cool looking GARO Ultimate Mode. It's a good but not exactly great series that gets a rating of 3 Powered Up GAROs out of 4...
If this month was a doozy, get ready for the ultimate end of me the rest of the year...
