REVIEW TIME:

You know what the hardest thing about reviewing relatively recent Movies, TV Shows, or Video Games is? Spoilers. Well I want to provide a sense of surprise for those of you who haven't seen or played these items or I'll get hate mail saying "THANKS FOR SPOILING THIS GAME/MOVIE/TV SHOW FOR ME, *******!" That being said How good is the anime that can be described as Sailor Moon meets GARO known as Puella Magi Madoka Magica (or Magical Girl Madoka of the Magus)? Well, find out today.

STORY:

With out giving too much away, The plot follows a 14 year old girl known as Madoka Kaname. She and her best friend, Sayaka Miki, find a strange cat like creature known as Kyubey. He offers to contract them for anything they want in exchange for fighting monsters known as witches as Magical girls. They're later joined by a transfer student known as Homura Akemi, who later becomes a magical girl, but the two main characters also don't become Magical Girls until later in the series (Madoka especially, but I'll get to that later).  Homura triest to prevent the two girls from being magical girls, but that fails at the end. Madoka learns about a Magical Girl's life, while they're fighting larger than life monsters. There's a lot of twists, turns, ups, downs, lefts, and rights along the way, from learning dark secrets, to allies dying. That's all I'm saying on  the anime, this anime has to be seen to be believed. It's on Hulu, so what are you waiting for.

Yeah, onto the verdict. The many twists and turns in this anime really give a sense of suspense to the story. As I said this is Sailor Moon meets GARO. It has the Magic Girls, and Cute elements of Sailor Moon with the Suspense, larger than life Monsters, and Gritty violence of GARO. What kills it for me is how long it takes for Madoka to become a Magical Girl, and the disappointing what happens after that, I'm not going to spoil that, so don't ask.

CHARACTERS:

Madoka Kaname is the one who doesn't get most of her development until close to the end, She is more of an observer for most of the series. SHE'S THE MAIN CHARACTER, THE ONE WHO GET'S TOP BILLING!!!!! BUT SHE GET'S TREATED LIKE A SIDE CHARACTER!!!! ANY OTHER CHARACTER FROM ANY OTHER SERIES WOULD GET MORE INVOLVED!!!! Homura Akemi starts out as the rival and a worthy opponent, and what happens at the end involving her is a big slap in the face for those who wanted to see Madoka in more action (SERIOUSLY WHY CAN'T HOMURA BE THE MAIN CHARACTER). Sayaka Miki is the Badass who can stand up for her self with badass swords, to bad she get's screwed later in the series. Mami Tomoe is a marksman, and one of the OG Magical Girls. She only appears in a few episodes, and she doesn't get that much development. The sixth ranger of the Magical Girls Kyoko Sakura is something I don't want to spoil, but Kyubey, is the Luna of the series, The talking pet.

PRESENTATION:

Yep, this is the best part of the series. The music mixes from being cutesy to creepy and extreme. The animation is also pretty good and artistic (especially in the action scenes), but nothing will ever top the 80s/90s style animation used in so many animes. The Monsters are large and creepy, but they do look a little  to much like paper cut outs. This anime has to be seen to be believed.

Time for a new section of the reviews called...

ENJOYMENT FACTOR:

Yeah, I don't know what this makes this anime so damn popular. Not to say the anime is bad, or knocking any one for liking it, but I don't know who to recommend this anime to. It may have suspense and many twists but the main character is misused, it's style over story in a sense. You have to see it in it's entirety in order to believe it, and why not? It's only 12 episodes, so I suggest yo give this the benefit of the doubt.

OVERALL:

While good, it was kind of disappointing for me, when it's good, it's great, but when it's bad, it's PAINFUL!!!! I give this 2.75 Soul Gems out of 4.

Time to get out my riot gear, but first...

YE: Now that we're at the ship, let's insert the Fuel tank and go home.

AY: OK.

*Inserts Fuel Tank*

AY: WHERE'S THE FUEL!?

Salesman: I was expecting you to steal that. Now IT'S TIME TO D-D-D-D-DUEL!!!! I AM IHSOY SUOMYNONA AND TIME TO HEAD TO EARTH IN OUR SPECIALLY MADE PRISON FOR YOU GUYS!!!!
