So Kamen Rider 555 is the 3rd Kamen Rider series I finished and This review's long overdue. I already talked about what Kamen Rider is, but breathe in....
KAMEN RIDER WAS CREATED BY SHOTARO ISHINOMORI IN 1971 AFTER HIS PROPOSAL FOR A SKULL MAN TV SHOW WAS REJECTED BY THE MAJOR NETWORKS OF JAPAN!!!!! IT'S GONE THROUGH MANY INTERPRETATIONS OVER THE YEARS, WITH MANY FANS STILL DEBATING ABOUT WHETHER THE SHOWA OR HEISEI ERA RIDER SERIES IS BETTER!!!!! THE SHOWA ERA WAS MORE CHILD FRIENDLY WHILE THE HEISEI ERA WAS MEANT TO ATTRACT OLDER FANS WHO LOVED THE METAL HERO SERIES IN THE EARLY 80S TO MID 90S!!!!!!
And Breathe Out. So 555 is regarded as one of the darkest entries in the series, but does this 2003 entry into the ongoing franchise hold up compared to bigger and better series?
STORY:
I'm just going to give you the TL;DR version because I'm saving the Dairanger style for another Toku Series... So Without Further ado, Here we go, no filler, Count zero...
SMART BRAIN IS THE WORLDS MOST POWERFUL CORPORATION AND THEY INVENTED THE FAIZ GEAR FOR SOMEONE TO DEFEND THE ORPHNOCH KING, A LEADER OF THE ORPHNOCH CREATURES!!!!! ORPHNOCHS ARE BASICALLY A PROPOSED MAN MADE EVOLUTION OF HUMANS!!!!!!TAKUMI INUI USES THE FAIZ GEAR TO BECOME KAMEN RIDER FAIZ TO DEFEND THE REMAINING HUMANS FROM THE OUT OF CONTROL ORPHNOCHS!!!!! THEY LATER ENCOUNTER LUCKY CLOVER, A SUBSIDIARITY OF SMART BRAIN!!!!!! WHEN THAT ORPHNOCH GROUP ATTACKS, FAIZ ENTERS COMPETITION WITH FELLOW RIDER KAIXA TO DESTROY THE ORPHNOCHS!!!!! THEY HAVE A RIVALRY BUT THE SOON TEAM UP!!!!! FAIZ KILLS A MEMBER OF LUCKY CLOVER!!!! BUT THEY SOON GAIN 2 MORE TO FORM A FOURSOME!!!!! THEY LATER GET INTO A RIVALRY WITH THE 3RD RIDER DELTA!!!!!! WHILE FIGHTING HIM, TAKUMI TURNS INTO THE WOLF ORPHNOCH AND TRIES TO JOIN LUCKY CLOVER!!!!! A NEW FAIZ GET'S THE BLASTER FORM (WHICH MAKES HIM MORE ARMED TO THE TEETH WITH NEW WEAPONS AND ABILITIES AND BEFORE THAT HE ALSO HAD THE AXEL FORM (WHICH MAKES HIM FASTER)!!!!! INUI LATER GAINS HIS HUMANITY BACK AFTER SEEING A FELLOW ORPHNOCH DIES!!!!!! A BOY NAMED TEROU DESTROYS ORPHNOCHS TO AWAKEN HIS TRUE FORM!!!!! THE PRESIDENT OF SMART BRAIN DIES AFTER BEING TRIPLE RIDER KICKED AND THE NEW PRESIDENT SETS UP SOME FOOTSOLDIERS NAMED RIOTROOPERS!!!!! THE ORIGINAL KAIXA DIES FROM A DISEASE AND THE ORPHNOCH KING IS AWAKENED AFTER FEEDING OFF ANOTHER MEMBER OF LUCKY CLOVER!!!!!!! THE SERIES COMES TO A CLOSE WHEN TEROU BECOMES THE ORPHNOCH KING FULLY, AND THE TEMPORARY FAIZ (WHO SPENT THE MOST TIME AS SECONDARY FAIZ) BECOMES HORSE ORPHNOCH ONE LAST TIME BEFORE BECOMING KAIXA FOR THE FINALE!!!!! FAIZ USES HIS BLASTER FORM ONE LAST TIME BEFORE ENDING THE SERIES TO DEFEAT THE FINAL BOSS!!!!! I WON'T SPOIL THE ENDING, BUT I'M NOT A BIG FAN OF IT FOR BEING TO OPEN ENDED!!!!!!
This is a real satisfying story with a dark gritty sophisticated tone, a tone that hasn't been matched by most rider series since. Though the ending disappointing compared to Kabuto's ending, I still Won't spoil either one, but you'll see it when you see it.
CHARACTERS:
Takumi Inui/Kamen Rider Faiz (based off the Phi Symbol) is the main protagonist. He's a cool looking rider with a bike that transforms into a robot. He's also a badass, with a mode that makes him faster (Axel), and a mode that gives him the Faiz Blaster with a gun that transforms into a sword (Blaster). Masato Kusaka/Kamen Rider Kaixa (based of the Chi Symbol) is an even better rider in my opinion because in addition to a transforming bike, he also has a gun that transforms into a sword, and that's even more badass (Faiz has that too, but that's not in his main form). Shuji Mihara/Kamen Rider Delta isn't that interesting, he doesn't have that much arsenal, but he is the most powerful of the riders. The orphnoch's are interesting, because they're like the worms from Kamen Rider Kabuto (They are evolutions of humans who kill regular humans), but with more variety, they can be all types of animals, Mammals, Lizards, Sea Animals, Insects, etc.
PRESENTATION:
The belts are... hard to get an opinion on, they do look futuristic, but The cellphones look off-putting, I always get the feeling someone's going to interrupt the fight just to text Faiz or Kaixa who's the better villain group Gorgom or Crisis. I do like the flash drive like memories, which would later be used in Kamen Rider W. The costume designs are as great as always, and I don't drink or anything, but a fun idea for a drinking game is every time there's an F or S bomb, well... you know. Also I really like the music in this series. That's all I have to say on this area.
OVERALL:
This is one of the best rider series of all time, Great action, sophisticated story, great coistumes. So give this one a watch. I give this a 4 Faiz Gears out of 4.
