Kinnikuman Retrospective: 7 Akuma Chojin Arc: Part 4

56k Beware and Spoilers Ahead

Continued from Part 3

I would absolutely Love to talk about Brocken Jr. (Again), Youtubers being accused of being Nazis, and how It'll affect the series (Kinnikuman), but Honestly, I think This should've gone from Controversy to Nontroversy. If the Wall Street Journal Didn't try to become a tabloid just out of desperation (and probably, this'll not be the last time), we could've gone on with life like nothing ever happened... Aye yi yi yi yi...

When we last left off, 2 more Akuma Chojin down, It's Kinnikuman VS Buffaloman, but we kind of need a partner, Whoo should be thee partner Hmmmmmmm....... Terry...... Nah (he's a little Bruised up), Brock... Uh uh uh (he needed outside help from another Cho...... Wait) I've got a perfect Idea, Brocken Jr. Pulled the mystery Chojin's Hood, but we don't know who it was and it's...

HOLY SH*T, I WAS RIGHT!!!!! I knew he looked familiar, but all I can say is "Ramenman. Often Imitated, Never Duplicated..."

This is Mongolman, people who've been paying attention from pretty close to the start of the arc can recognize him from the whole submitted Chojin thing, but now he has elements Ramenman, this kind of requires some explanation...

You know the biggest problem with making this? It's that finding information about the Behind The Scenes BS that was going on in the series' run (especially in English). It's basically all in Japanese, Sure I COULD look at the author's notes, but as far to my knowledge goes the only Author's notes that are translated are the officially released Nisei Volumes from Viz (and they've been Out of Print for years (so If you're up to the challenge of translating the fanmail published at the end of each volume from the 1980s, comment below or use these links), Which is why this series required some educated guesses to understand how things worked, From what I gathered Ramenman was an extremely popular character, only growing bigger with each new chapter of the series, he was the one who didn't take Kinnikuman's Bullsh*t before the finals of the 20th Chojin Olympics, and after that actually helped Kinnikuman in more than one occasion. He was a very selfless, so much so that he went from dated Chinese stereotype villain to Full fledged hero and was willing to sacrifice his life to save Kinnikuman from the Brutal Chojin Known as Warsman. Ramenman's surge in popularity, and the Mongolman-Ramenman Connection caused him to get His own series. The the ladder two thirds of that Sentence were a brilliant marketing move on the Creator's Part because it 1) encouraged Kids to read Weekly Shonen Jump every week to see if he returns, especially as more teases and guessing (Keep in mind There was NO Internet, so, you had to rely on subscriptions, and/or the manga rack at the convenience store or wherever to find out more), 2) it'd get the series talked about with other Kids further spreading Word of Mouth about the series, furthering the series' popularity, and 3) it would create awareness for one of Shonen Jump's sister publications, Fresh Jump* (where the Ramenman spinoff manga was being published (we'll probably get to that another time, since literally none of manga is translated or even any of the RAWs were released (or at least up to date & virus-free raws), but we might actually get a vague Idea of what the manga was from the Anime), further increasing Shueisha's (and by extension Yudetamago's) Profits. Think of it how Saban handled, the MMPR Green Ranger, he leaves because Sentai Footage then he doesn't return until after the 40th episode (the Proposed Season Finale of MMPR), he then returns for the last sixth of Season 1 and later the first few episodes of Season 2, after that the actor plays a role in the unreleased Cybertron (which would later become VR Troopers), the actor joins MMPR again, then a few more episodes later he returned as the white ranger, and became a permanent part of the cast until Turbo (which the series itself was underrated, but this might've been one of the Power Rangers franchise's biggest Mistakes).

*If you want to know what Fresh Jump, From what I could gather, it was basically for One-shots (most notably, 1983's Dragon Boy from Akira Toriyama, I think we all know what came of that) and some recurring works (Tatakae!! Ramenman being one of them), but that's pretty much it, I know Weekly Shonen Jump had these manga competitions to see who'd get a spot in the magazine, but I don't know if any of the runners up even got a spot there, someone who has more info, please tell me...

Sorry about that, back to the story, Mongolman tells Kinnikuman not to fight, because that's essentially suicide. which does't make Kinnikuman too happy, but they compromise and say TIME FOR A TAG MATCH!! I suppose I could talk about this whole Big Wrestler and Superstar Chojin thingy, but Screw you Do you really want me to talk about every freaking Panel and every detail of each spec of the page? Thought not. The fight starts as the Devil Chojin Tag Team charge.at Kinnikuman. Then Mongolman jumps into the ring, and saves Kinnikuman. Mongolman takes off his hoodie, and he sure does have some impressive pecs. Turns out the past 2 or 3 chapters cover 10 minutes and Meat's arm is at risk Springman and Kinnikuman start out the fight and Buffaloman throws Springman into Kinnikuman and, he goes flying... Mongolman saves him and takes Suguru's spot, and Kinnikuman has a fit about that... Mongolman spins Springman like...

So long ye Bowser!

Turns out it was just outside the ring, and the Devil Chojin use their Spring Bazooka...

You know, now's a great time to show a picture of Buffaloman (since as far as I know, other than MAYBE at the beginning of the arc, I didn't post a picture of him)...

Springman is fired towards Mongolman, but instead he's just Pushed Back. At first Kinnikuman is upset at him over not saving Meat, but he realizes that Mongolman was just trying top protect Meat. And Eventually become Allies. Spring man springs (no pun intended) back into action, and the fight continues. The 2 Idol Chojin do a crossline to Springman. Mongolman then enters the ring, and each side stares at each other. the time limit is now 10 minutes. Mongolman goes all out Bane on springman traps him into a Schmidt Backbreaker. He then Uses some karate chops to Springman, The spring then uses machine gun Kicks to get some damage on Mongolman, then he starts sweating.... This leads him to start taking his sweat into he sky (somehow?), in a technique known as Hell's Shower... The rain that comes from the sky afterwards causes Springman to rust. Mongolman Camel Clutch's Springman into a useless string, OR DOES IT?

Springman then starts beating the ever lasting FRAK out of Mongolman, and his blood stains reveal the Claw marks Warsman gave Ramenman from the 21st Chojin Olympics, Leading Kinnikuman to assume he's Ramenman, but stops himself. Springman goes into his finisher, Traps Mongolman, and by some weird Voodoo or whatever, has his hair move a like around by itself like a symbiote, tangles his hair around Springman, and the last 30 seconds tick as he's doing that... He jumps and does a hip drop on Springman. With 10 seconds left, Mongolaman sends Springman towards Meat's arm with a leg lariat. Kinnikuman rushes towards meat's arm, and gets it in the nick of time... Kinnikuman puts it on Meat's body. and Mongolman leaves and...

Oh no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no!!!!! It can't be... nah, it isn't...

The Ramenman Teases continue, but we have to deal With the main Event Kinnikuman vs Buffaloman. Kinnikuman fires a drop kick towards Buffaloman, only to have it Deflect, Kinnikuman follows up with a monkey flip, which Buffaloman turn's heavier with him changing color. Kinnikuman then uses a western lariat, you can already guess what happens next, Buffaloman counters with his own Lariat. Buffalo describes the Kinniku Buster as like the number 6, which can be turned into the Number 9, Don't be giving me any Innuendo's to work with, buddy... Buffalman turns bright red, and Kinnikuman risks his life with a Kinniku Buster. and Buffalo man counters it. with a reversal. kinnikuman and Buffaloman land on the ropes, and Kinnikuman is saved by Terryman. Kinnikuman learns a revelation on how to beat Buffaloman, but Terryman assumes It won't work. Buffaloman spins Suguru with one hand, and swirls him around, and get's his Finisher, the Hurricane Mixer ready. Kinnikuman escapes, and traps Buffalomam into the corner, for 2 panels.Buffalo taunts Kinnikuman, then Suguru Escapes, only to be stopped by Buffaloman. He throws Kinnikuman into the ring, impales him with his kneecap, and damages him with a elbow drop. Buffaloman goes for his finisher with Kinnikuman getting more and more damaged with 15 minutes to save Meat, Kinnikuman barely avoids the sharp horn. He also learns that warsman broke his horn much in the same vein as Ramenman saved him in the 21st Chojin Olympics. kinnikuman grabs Bufffaloman's leg, and gets thrown into the ropes, but Kinnikuman bounces back. with an elbow hit and a weakening Buffaloman sends Kinnikuman flying into the air... Kinnikuman is about to land on Buffaloman with a knee drop, and Knnikuman Learns to use Buffaloman's Long horns against him... Buffaloman starts his Hurricane Mixer on Kinnikuman (upon request), It seems to work, but Kinnikuman grabs him by the horns, uses his fin, and sends him down for the count. Meanwhile, Harabote Muscle tells the characters who are not fighting about Buffaloman, with him getting up with a scar on his head and is now more powerful. He uses his hurricane mixer and Kinnikuman tries the trick that worked the last time, only this time Buffaloman sends Suguru Flying, Buffaloman is revealed to be controlled by Satan (as a 1,000,000 power Chojin, he wanted to be a 10,000,000 chojin, but he had to sell his blood to Satan)... All of his scars are revealed, and Reveals his 10 million power, as Meat's head is 8 minutes away from EXPLODING!!!!!!!!!!! Kinnikuman gets scared then gets ready to rip him apart when the scars start moving and heads to his Good Horn. The horn grows and heads for Kinnikuman. Buffaloman uses a Tomahawk Hurricane to rip apart Kinnikuman. Kinnikuman gets all of Buffaloman's scars and...

This picture (besides Looking good and proving how Yudetamago's art can still look good without excessive Shadows) reminds me of How Kenshiro (from Hokuto no Ken) Kills his enemies. Seriously though Buffaloman might as well say, "You're Already Dead"...

Kinikumanman is severely Injured and is down for the count. With the 20 count almost done, Kinnikuman Handstands and does a jump kick. It's not very Effective. Kinnikuman tries to escape again, but It works out worse than the last time. Buffaloman turns Invisible, only one problem, he shows some blood, Oh no, if only he had Shizuka Joestar's sta...

Phone: Ring! Ring! Ring! Phone Call! Phone Call! Ring! Ring! Ring! Phone Call! Phone Call!

A. Yoshi: I know that's the producer, so I ain't answering it...

Voicemail: This is A. Yoshi, leave a message. If this is the producer, PISS OFF, MORON!!!!!!!

The Producer: Yoshi, Yoshi, Yoshi, I will not tolerate this level of disobedience or disrespect, If it becomes a habit, I'll defund this whole Project...

Anyhoo, Kinnikuman sends Buffaloman to the mat, With only 5 minutes until Meat's head explodes. It's revealed the blood was Buffaloman's neck was Meat's blood (and he only appeared just now why?). Buffaloman reacts to the revelation to, create a fake scar on him, only to have Meat's injury recover, but a the cost of returning Him to his 10 Million Power. Buffaloman puts Kinnikuman into a hangman hold, then a Chojin Throw, revealing Kinnikuman's real face (or part of it (i.e. his mouth). Buffaloman goes for the drop kick, Kinnikuman calls for a time out, and fixes his mask... Buffaloman attacks while suguru is distracted, Suguru avoids it (5 minutes left), Buffaloman goes for a sunset flip, which leads Kinnikuman to put him into a Kinniku Buster... Buffaloman reverses it, only to have a trick up his slee... I don't know. Suguru then uses a Burning Inner Reverse Blast, rising upwards while spinning and reveal the Neo Kinniku Buster. Both fall on the mat. Both seem to become allies, but all his scars form Satan's shadow. Buffaloman tries to rip off Kinnikuman's mask, only to rip part of his Mask Off. Kinnikuman Kicks Buffaloman off the ring, but he also has secret tricks...

Cue Jaws Theme...

He rips the ring apart, and tries to behead Kinnikuman, only to be stopped by Kinnikuman's arm. Buffaloman is sent to the mat.and trapped in the ropes Kinnikuman goes for the finishing blow, only for Buffaloman to turn... Good? Showing Mercy? but almost as imediately showing ,mercy, he's back to Satan's Control, and sends kinnikuman down for the count. Buffaloman has signs of going down, due to the fact He can't handle all the power given to him. 3 minutes left, can Kinnikuman do it? Kinnikuman is using the rest of his power, Kinnikuman then becomes Mirage Knight from Yu-Gi-Oh! and Becomes super powerful yet could die after this. They Charge at Each other, only for Kinnikuman to have the upper hand. Until, Buffaloman puts him into a piledriver.and somehow walks out thinks Suguru's finished, because Kinnikuman pierced through the mat as a result of his piledriver. Kinnikuman rises, and explains what happened (Basic version: Burning Inner Strength, that's it) the match is 2 minutes away from Buffaloman winning by default. and Buffaloman uses his Hurricane Mixer on Kinnikuman, and he lands on the pole and falls down. Only to be saved by his fallen allies...

Buffaloman gets afraid, and his foot falls into the torn mat. (30 second warning) Kinnikuman offers Buffaloman his Burning Inner Strength, but his good horn drains Kinnikuman (a la Cell from Dragon Ball Z), and...

Wonderful Shueisha/Yudetamago... Teaching Impressionable Young Kids moves that could get themselves or other people hurt... Bravo! Just Bravo! /s

as Kinnikuman Gets Weaker and Weaker, he shrivels up more and more.and after pages and panels that could've lasted minutes or so, all the time that elapsed was 5 seconds. Buffaloman is feeling more and more sorry for himself (despite Satan telling him otherwise), and he decides to go for Meat's head in the last 20 seconds of the match... Satan controls the Chojin's body and When he absorbs Kinnikuman, a mark of Kinnikuman on his back. He then Pierces through him, leading to the day evil has won (just wait Until 2016, then we'll talk)... The mark of Kinnikuman gets bigger and bigger... Buffaloman is on fire. and that flame was enough to revive Kinnikuman, and he finishes the match with a Neo Kinniku Buster, and the two chojin do the wrestling version of a DBZ Beam Struggle. The actual Match was Finished with Kinnikuman landing with a Kinniku Buster. I forgot wasn't this match about something, something with a time limit? Oh Yeah, Meat's Head is going to blow every time a new Panel happens. Buffaloman Gives Kinnikuman the key, and we enter the single digit seconds and Kinnikuman rushes to the rescue, literally at the last second, Buffaloman throws his horn at the case Meat's head was in. Satan makes Buffaloman explode in blood, he decides to apologize to Kinnikuman and Goes away to be killed. Meat's head is put on and it Looks like he's Dead, but...

Yep arc ov... wait don't we have a few loose ends to tie up?

Meat and Suguru are happy to be together again Buffaloman gives the last of his power to the 3 Chojin that The Devil Chojin Killed (Wolfman, Robin Mask, and Warsman). The arc ends with everyone looking towards the future...

So before we begin, Let me give The AnimeHERO a belated thank you for answering Q&A my question(s) (link here), no I won't use this to influence my Opinion, but Him and his Buddy a big Thank You for being generous enough for fitting a Topic that could be a whole 40+ minute video or video series onto itself into a 5 minute Segment (BEWARE: IT DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE NEXT 3 ARCS, so once you see the List, pause or once the player controls dissolve, Screencap it to keep it). Why Bring this up? Because I needed a fellow Kinnikufan to compare my opinions and my list to... Now, let's talk about the actual arc, First off, This arc is a superhero team up with 6 (later 7) chojin vs 7 evil chojin. Honestly, if they wanted to have a ramenman like Character as sort of a 7th Ranger character, why the FALKNER did they Pick Wolfman as part of the team on the Idol Chojin team? there was NO evidence between His last panel in the 21st Chojin Olymics and his first appearance in this arc, or even a throw away line in either arc that explained why He became chums with any of the Idol chojin... There's 3 possible scenarios I assume Happened, 1) his popularity in Japan (ummmmmm........ Sure?), but I hope you enjoyed his fight in this arc, because he hardly get's any fighting for the rest of the series, more on that in a future installment, 2) he made it to the semifinals in a Chojin Olympics arc (Calling Brocken Jr! Calling Brocken Jr!) or 3) They needed a Japan Representative for the team (And Kinnikuman wasn't a good enough choice why?). Even then, Each character gets their own share of fighting (Whether they lived or died (and came back to life)). I admit the bringing the dead back to life is stupid, but this is one of the earliest Fantasy Fighting Manga, so It's kind of Okay for authors to experiment a little with the story, remember Fist of the North Star wasn't released yet, Nor was Dragon Ball for that matter, DragonBall pretty much revived characters like reviving Characters was like Crack, especially later in that series. Had FotNS became more popular, we could've seen a much more different shonen genre (permadeaths and all). Back To Kinnikuman, I already talked about he Idol Chojin (one I spent a whole paragraph on in the Beginning of this Post), but what about Kinnikuman, and the Titular to the arc 7 Akuma Chojin? Well Other than having some creative designs, and great abilities, but only two who are Important (or will become important later), Black Hole was supposed to be the Leader, with Buffaloman being the Brute, But If I had to guess, either the editor (Torishima), or the authors (Yudetamgo), or whoever saw more potential in Buffaloman. Also Black Hole appeared in a future arc as sort of an opponent (not something we have time to go into this post). Something that bugged me about Buffaloman was that, Unlike Warsman and Mr. Barracuda, He got turned into essentially a full-out Digimon in the final fight of the arc, with his laundry list of Attacks & Abilities that most of them won't be used again after this arc. His fight with Warsman was better (showing Warsman's selflessness by saving Kinnikuman as Ramenman did for him), but The tag match was, while Epic, Slow paced in the second half of match. The last quarter of the match got pretty emotional, and his final moments of this arc shows how selfless Buffaloman really is. Even Kinnikuman learns Virtues such as Friendship and Selflessness, and risked his life to save Meat. Now time to discuss 2 buzzwords you should know if you watched Dragon Ball (any series), "Cinematic Time" and "Power Levels", Cinematic Time means something is happening faster or slower than the viewer is reading/watching, basically put, one panel might have a day or a few go , and whole groups of panels take place in the same second (you've got to realize this is a time based arc. Yeah, yeah, sure, character perspectives, but remember Dragon Ball Z, when Frieza said "5 Minutes until Planet Namek Explodes" and it took 12 or so episodes, If you do the math, it's essentially 24 seconds a episode. The average US commercial elapses more time than the cinematic time of those episodes. Trust me, it's mostly just heavy breathing and exposition). As for Power Levels, It's just a number that measures how the heroes compares to the villains and to each other, all this accomplished anywhere is 1) Created the BULLSH*T OVER 9000 MEME, and 2) created for Death Battle guess pieces before the episode of the series is is actually released (I don't hate most of these posts, just don't like the posts) Aye yi yi yi yi yi...

So onto ratings, I admit This does a lot right (teaching about the values of Friendship, more fantastical fights, More Creative Chojin, Etc.) but the villains resort to being Monsters of the day (Trust me if Black Hole was the main villain, it might as well being a full on power Rangers/Super Sentai Villain ensemble). Anyhoo yeah here's the list (and HERO, we're totally going to disagree, but here goes nothing)...

  • 21st Chojin Olympics Arc
  • 7 Devil Chojin Arc
  • 20th Chojin Olympics Arc
  • American Tour Arc
  • Kaiju Fighting Days Arc
  • 2nd Era of Kaiju Fighting/Bibinba/Planet Rakka Arc

Next time, A Macguffin is stolen, The Devil Chojin get Ready for round 2, only this time, they're stronger, and the chojin of the world are in more danger than before in the Golden Mask Arc. Yep the stakes get Even Higher, stay tuned....

Yes this is a new outro, get used to these because you're going to see these in each final post of each arc of this series going forward
