Busters Ready Go! Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters Review

Go Busters Is a very divisive Sentai among Toku Fans, the darker tone was Praised by some fans and criticized by other fans. Some of it comes from the greatness that was Gokaiger getting so many praises. Some consider Go Busters to be the beginning of the seasonal rot era of Sentai, an era that has gone on for many fans for half a decade, Unless Kyuuranger is some rock your world series, I feel like that's going to continue... So what do I Think of the series, well...

STORY:

In the year 2012, Enetron is being used as an energy source for everything, But an evil organization known as Vaglass for it's own Metaloids and Megazords. Yes this is the first, and possibly last Sentai to refer the mechs as Megazords (the Power Rangers name). The Energy Management Center hires 3 of it's top spies to become The Go Buster, Red, Yellow, and Blue. They get weapons like cameras that turn into guns, binoculars that turn into blades, Robotic assistants,Super Powers, and Zords of their own. We later see the team get new weapons, new rangers, new mechs, and a new mode for more power. Meanwhile Vaglass, gets a new member, and more powerful Metaloids. The story gets more interesting as we learn more about the characters on both sides and a really great 5 part endgame arc. It's not quite as good as Liveman's, but it's filled with great action and has a satisfying ending. If you didn't like it at first, you might like it after a second watch.

CHARACTERS:

Hiromu Sakurada/Red Buster is the cocky leader, he also has a great backstory, and we learn more about him as the series goes on. Ryuji Iwasaki/Blue Buster is the oldest of the team, and the one with the most fighting experience. Yoko Usami may be a hot babe but she is so naive and rude it hurts. but what did I expect from a 16 year old... Oops. Masato Jin/Beet Buster and Beet J. Stag/Stag Buster, have great chemistry together, and many people consider them unique enough to be a sixth ranger, I personally don't but they do have Sixth ranger elements. If they were any closer to a sixth, They'd end up on Sentai Sixth Rangers Top 10, at least as honorable mentions. They all Get their own buddyroids, at least the main 3 do. Jin has one, kinda. You see, Jin and Beet J. Stag are a human/buddyroid team, that's all you need know

Enter (no not Mr. Enter) is a hacker type of villain, he later gets a monster form that looks like a Prince/Knight. Messiah reminds me of Javious I from Megaranger, he's a virtual skull who gets a physical form midway (briefly) and late into the series. Escape is a very sniper type of villain, she gets a monster form around the same time Enter, and gets more gruesome as the series gets farther. Some say that the series could've used more villains, but less villains gives them more time to shine individually.

PRESENTATION:

The costume design and the mech designs are really good, they could use a toyline (a la SIC but one for mechs and one for toku monsters) to make them look cooler. The Busters get some amazing mechs, weapons, and inspired some great toys over the year it aired. The music is really good with a selection of songs, special mention goes to "One Wish, One Day". The setting is very much an interesting mix of the present and the future...

OVERALL:

It may be a drift away from Gokaiger, but it's not half bad. I'm on the side of the series doesn't suck. I recommend watching it if you haven't already. Also if I could go off on a tangent, I kind of wish this was it's own season of power rangers, but I have mixed feelings about it. Chip Lynn could make this work, he made Kyouryuuger into one of the better Seasons of the Neo Saban era, then again it didn't have much competition. I give this 3.5 Ichigan Busters out of 4

Next week, the movie...
